Driving Range Tee

As of today through the end of the year, we will be using only the matts on the driving range. The grass portion of the tee will be closed. Giving the turf a rest now, allows a little recovery before the winter and puts us in the best position to have a healthy tee next spring.

We raise the mowing height ... or as weather dictates, stop mowing completely. A higher mowing height results in more leaf tissue that can produce food for winter storage. An increase in food storage helps the grass plant withstand the rigors of winter.

Range Tee Practice

Ty McClellan from the USGA has written a very good article about range tee divot patterns. I have included a link below.

Managing the divot pattern can go a long way towards helping the grounds staff keep the best turf possible on our range tee. With unlimited usage, the undersized tee cannot withstand the amount of play it receives. By utilizing the divot pattern recommended by the USGA, we can provide a much better playing surface.

Driving Range Tee

The Driving Range Tee will open this week. As it is too small to handle the use it receives, divots become a major issue by mid-summer when high temperatures make it difficult for seed to germinate. Players using the tee can help keep it in good condition by thinking about the divot patter they use. The following article explains this very well, just click on the link below.
