Wells for Irrigation

We have 2 wells located left of #4 green that provide water for the South Course irrigation system. Each well is surrounded by native grasses and supply a total of 950 gallons per minute when both are working in tandem. The supply line runs through number 4 fairway, in front of #7 tee, in front of #14 tee/#13 green, then across #12 fairway and terminates at the pond on #16.

Water use is driven by two factors: member expectations and turfgrass needs.

Our annual water usage for the South is 41 million gallons (the North Course averages 33 million). This would be lower if not for two low rainfall years: 2005 and 2007 when we used almost 60 million gallons on the South. In 2005 we were also recovering from the Ryder Cup and in 2007 we were preparing for the PGA, both events drive up water usage on both courses.

In 2011 we used 32.4 million gallons on the South Course and 22.9 million on the North. These below average numbers are due to a concerted effort to lower water use and also the above average rainfall we received.
