Winter Covers

We're approaching winter covers on the South greens a little differently this year. Numbers, six, eight, 10 and 17 will NOT be covered. There are different reasons for each green site, but in general we don't think the risk of winter damage is great enough to warrant covers.

With the removal of trees in prior years, there is more sun on numbers six and eight. Numbers 10 and 17 have had sufficient sun for several years and we have not experienced damage on these two greens.

Covers present several challenges. They are cumbersome to install and remove and it is very difficult to remove snow with a snow blower when the green has a plastic cover. Removing snow is our number one method for 'winter kill' prevention.
