"Center Cups"

Many years ago, the South greens were irrigated by one quick coupler in the center of the green. A night waterman would use this one connection to irrigate the entire green. They were abandoned several decades ago when the first automatic irrigation system was installed.

Because they are so shallow, we cannot aerify directly over them when aerating greens. So finally, after many years, we are taking the time to remove them, or at least most of them this fall.

So the little squares of sod you see in the center of the greens are from us removing theses old "center cups".
