"Water Injection" is another form of aerification that compliments, but does not replace core aerification. It's a great summer tool to relieve stress with minimal or no member disruption.
A high pressure stream of water is "injected" in to the green surface, down through the soil, to a depth of about 10". The South Course putting green has received a lot of traffic and is showing signs of excessive wear, so a little aerification now will help it through the final days of summer.
